Community Engagement Coordinator
The Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) will play a key role in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in San Francisco and the greater East Bay. Reporting to the Business Partnerships Manager, the CEC will help recruit and maintain partnerships with 85+ businesses and organizations (called “Ally Partners”) offering internships to New Door youth. The CEC will also be responsible for helping execute day-to-day operational tasks for the recently launched employment programs in the East Bay. This is a highly adaptive and evolving role as New Door expands its service to young people in the greater Bay Area.
To be successful in the position, you will need to quickly build rapport with people and develop a strong understanding of their needs. You understand the value and positive impact that a job has in the life of a young person and will cultivate relationships with the businesses providing that experience. An ideal candidate will bring strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to interact with several different audiences, and flexibility with the developing needs of an enterprising program.
New Door is a data-centric organization with a stellar track record of growth and positive social outcomes. The current annual operating budget is approximately $7 million of which 50% is contributed. New Door partners with 85+ partners annually to employ 250+ youth and has employed over 1500 youth since 2005.
Develop new employment program internship opportunities
- Identify pipeline of prospective new partners and increase the number and types of internships offered in San Francisco and the greater East Bay
- Engage with the Bay Area business community by networking, participating in local meetings, and building relationships across multiple sectors
- Prepare materials and effectively deliver presentations to prospective Ally partners highlighting the needs of disconnected youth
- Ensure partners have a thorough understanding of New Door and are committed to providing a meaningful work experience; ensure New Door staff and interns have a thorough understanding of Ally partners’ needs
Cultivate and strengthen current partnerships
- Understand interests and needs of the current pool of Ally partners and steward relationships by providing high-quality customer service, timely communication, and support for intern supervision
- Anticipate potential issues that may negatively affect an internship, collaborate cross-functionally to bring issues to resolution, provide resources to supervisors and interns
- Maintain partner data in contact management software; ensure necessary information is communicated
- Participate in meetings that advance New Door’s relationships in the East Bay, with businesses, community organizations, and other youth service providers
- Help develop, organize, and execute special events that engage youth participants, Ally partners, volunteers, and other key stakeholders
- Build relationships with local youth and youth service providers to recruit youth for New Door’s East Bay program
- Build new systems for supporting East Bay program operations such as managing calendars, stocking supplies, and maintaining/updating key documents and resources
- Organize the East Bay youth intake process, ensuring that youth complete all necessary steps to begin employment
- Track and report both quantitative and qualitative data, such as youth attendance, success stories, and program modifications
- Four-year degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
- Two years of relevant experience in a nonprofit organization or in the business sector
- Demonstrated maturity and cultural competency for working with diverse populations; comfortable networking and building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Knowledge of the sociological and economic history and current trends of San Francisco, the East Bay, and the greater Bay Area strongly preferred
- Self-starter and relatively self-managed; takes initiative to learn and ask for help when needed
- Strong attention to detail and administrative skills; able to develop organized systems with minimal direction
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including basic Microsoft proficiency
- Access to a car and/or ability to drive preferred
Compensation will be in the mid $40s annually DOE along with our generous benefits.
