Today, New Door Ventures was one of three organizations honored by Tipping Point Community for its work in helping at-risk youth overcome poverty and achieve economic self sufficiency. Each organization received a $50,000 award, and we plan to direct ours towards our 2011 goal of providing 33% more jobs for disconnected youth.
Tipping Point was founded in 2005 to make poverty preventable in the Bay Area, and since then has raised over $25M for its grantees throughout the Bay Area, including New Door.
The Tipping Point Award and the recent Bank of America Neighborhood Builders Award not only affirm the value of our work, but also they are powerful fuel for our planned growth for the next two years.
Since the beginning of 2009, New Door has seen a five-fold increase in the number of youth applying for our job internships. This year, nearly 400 youth applied for 91 jobs. Our strategic plan calls for doubling the number of job internships we provide, from 60 last year to 120 next year. Our Board recently approved searching for a new, larger facility to accommodate this growth.
Next year, you will hear more about our ambitious growth plans – made possible not only by these one-time awards but also by the regular and generous support of people like you. Every dollar contributed and every hour volunteered is needed and put to good use!
Thank you for being an integral part of our community of donors, volunteers, and partners who make it possible for us to be a tipping point in the lives of the youth we serve.
Sincerely,
Tess Reynolds, CEO
