New Door Ventures is an early intervention employment and education program for high-potential transition-age youth (TAY) ages 16-24 who reside in Bay Area communities facing elevated levels of youth disconnection, socioeconomic challenges, and community stress.

Founded in 1981, New Door Ventures was borne out of the belief that by providing resources for youth to build foundational education and job skills, personal support, mentorship, and pathways to higher education and career opportunities, these young people can experience greater success in adulthood. Our strategies provide educational and economic mobility for TAY facing significant barriers to obtaining and retaining unsubsidized employment, empowering youth make successful transitions to adulthoods marked by economic independence and engagement with their community.

Since 2005, we have served more than 5,000, (and directly employed over 2,700), TAY through our workforce readiness programs with demonstrable long-term impact. According to California’s Employment Development Department (EDD), 74% of our program graduates are employed 3 years after program exit — significantly higher than youth who began but did not complete the program (52%) and all California youth ages 16-24 (40%). EDD wage data also demonstrates that youth who completed our program have higher average annual earnings of 40% one year after program completion and 200% two years after program completion than the year prior to entering the program.

To serve our organization more broadly, and specifically in support of the Development Department, we are currently hiring a Communications Manager.

About the Opportunity:

The New Door Ventures Communications Manager shall be responsible for brand awareness, and identifying potential donors, supporters, and program participants. The Communications Manager will develop and manage local and regional marketing initiatives, including traditional, digital, and social media. The Communications Manager will perform marketing research within the communities we serve to better identify target audiences and use the findings to generate leads and maintain consistent reach, awareness, and opportunities for growth in our markets.

This role is exempt and is located primarily on-site at New Door’s San Francisco location. Currently, New Door Ventures employs a hybrid work location policy, with a 3:2 office/remote cadence. New Door’s spacious three-story building in the Mission District of San Francisco is a comfortable, welcoming space, equipped to keep staff and clients protected from transmission of infectious disease. Office space is open-plan and shared with a collaborative, respectful team.

  • Consistent creation of content reflecting asset-based frames and an equity point of view
  • Displays strong written and verbal communication skills to share ideas clearly, collaborate effectively with team members, and engage with our community respectfully and inclusively
  • Exhibits creativity and proficiency in developing compelling and visually appealing social media content, including graphics, videos, and written materials, that resonate with our target audience

Primary Responsibilities: 

Build Brand Awareness (50%)

  • Develop and implement an effective communications and social media strategy to promote New Door Ventures to potential donors, supporters, and participants
  • Manage content, production, and publication for digital, print, and social media
  • Maintain organization’s website and serve as liaison to external webmaster
  • Prepare and maintain marketing materials for outreach opportunities
  • Partner with programs on cohort activities to understand, observe, and engage young people in storytelling for the recruitment of interns and engagement of donors and volunteers.

Content Creation and Management (40%)

  • Collaborate with programs and leadership team to ensure consistency in messaging, brand voice, and visual identity
  • Maintain a library of internal templates such as slide decks, letterheads, etc.
  • Maintain an internal style guide, messaging guide, and boilerplates
  • Prepare social media templates and collateral to share with programs

Development Communications (10%)

  • Create content for annual campaigns including direct mail, online and peer-to-peer fundraising
  • Support Board and Ambassador Council with collateral to support fundraising efforts
  • Analyze data to evaluate the success of their marketing efforts and come up with new ideas to improve marketing and exposure
  • Update senior leadership and the Board on the progress of marketing activities and report on the results of campaigns and programs

Preferred Qualifications & Skills: 

  • The equivalent of, or a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a related area to communications, marketing, or public relations.
  • 4-7 years’ experience in nonprofit marketing and communications, preferably in fund development;
  • Knowledge of asset-based framing storytelling and community-centric fundraising;
  • Knowledge of current trends in communications and marketing strategies;
  • Experience and/or interest in communications, social media content curation, design and brand awareness
  • Experience or familiarity with the communities to which New Door delivers programming
  • Inspirational leader who has exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • An organized and strategic thinker who is comfortable with oversight and project management and holds a great attention to detail
  • A self-starter with strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience with appropriate computer and reporting systems including Windows operating system, Microsoft Office Suite, and Outlook. Adobe Photoshop or InDesign a plus

The Communications Manager at New Door Ventures earns $69,700.00 – $75,800.00 annually depending on experience. Compensation is reviewed annually.
