Part-Time Teacher- San Francisco

About the Organization: 80,000 youth ages 16-24 in the San Francisco Bay Area are disconnected from employment and education. Without connecting to school and work, these young people are at high risk to be poor, unemployed, homeless, or incarcerated throughout their adult lives. All youth should have the opportunity to transition to a fulfilling, economically sustainable adulthood. At New Door Ventures, we believe youth are assets. To connect young people to paid jobs and support, we offer two programs: Employment, and Education. We are currently seeking a Part-Time Teacher to join our established, collaborative Education Team.
About the Program: New Door’s Education Program is a dynamic combination of direct instruction – in critical thinking, language arts, mathematics, and creative disciplines – and targeted individualized exam preparation. We know that students reach their goals when they are engaging their whole selves, developing as learners and members of a community. The Education Program offers individualized high school equivalency test preparation, tutoring, case management, college counseling, education bridging to career, and classroom experience in which social-emotional learning is integrated into all instruction. New Door clients represent a population of under-served youth in San Francisco. A typical client profile has a combination of critical risk factors: a background in foster care, justice system involvement, significant substance abuse histories, experience of homelessness, connection with gang activity, and lack of positive adult supports. New Door has a vibrant team approach and the Education Team works together to provide our students support and participate in the broader San Francisco youth development community. New Door emphasizes an outcome-focused approach to youth development, and places high value on the power of relationships to transform the lives of our clients.
About the Position: Education Specialists at New Door Ventures provide direct instruction, individualized support, and test preparation to youth as they work towards high school equivalency and their goals regarding future employment and education. Reporting to the San Francisco Program Director, the Part-Time Teacher will provide direct instruction to small groups in the classroom, work one-on-one with students, and maintain basic data. This role is a part-time, hourly position, at the rate of $25 per hour. The schedule will be 8 hours per week, on-site at New Door’s San Francisco location.
