Finding his Prescription for Success

Jason was inspired to pursue a career in healthcare after watching his sister thrive in the field.

“I thought, maybe this could be my chance to do the same,” says Jason, who applied to New Door’s Pharmacy Technician program after his sister sent him a screenshot about the training.

At 23, Jason was still figuring out his next step. He had taken computer science courses and worked in customer service but hadn’t yet found a long-term career pathway.

New Door offers a structured entry point into healthcare—combining training, mentorship, and hands-on experience in an in-demand field.

Over several weeks, Jason worked closely with a licensed pharmacist. He also learned the ins and outs of hundreds of medications, got hands-on practice with dispensing and dosages, and received one-on-one career coaching and interview prep.

All of that happened before he even began his 140-hour externship at a CVS Pharmacy®, where he worked toward his pharmacy technician certification.

And it shows. When asked how prepared they feel for the state exam, Jason and his peers rated their readiness at an average of 7.5 out of 10—proof the program is building real confidence early on.

“The program has been really straightforward,” he shares. “It helped me prepare for the next step in my career.”

Jason hopes to continue advancing in the field, with the long-term goal of becoming a pharmacist.

“Experience is the greatest thing you can get. If you fail you learn something from it but if you succeed you gain something from it,” he says.

“There’s no negatives, just positives.”
